Lessons of Surah Al-Qari’ah (101 The Calamity)

Apr 28, 2021

Good Tree Academy 4th graders share three messages from Surah Al-Qari’ah (translated as The Calamity), the 101st chapter in the Holy Qur’an. In this surah, Allah begins by illustrating the calamities which will occur just before the Day of Judgment, including a boom as Hina describes “a million times more” than thunder we experience. People, especially those unprepared who are not familiar with the guidance Allah has provided, will be running around like scattered moths. Mountains will be floating like carded wool. Can you imagine that? We’ve never experienced such calamity.

Aya explains how Allah then begins the second half of the surah with good news for His believers: come to the Day of Judgment with a heavy scale of good deeds and He will reward us with His eternal paradise. Manha then shares Allah’s warning that those whose scales are heavier with bad deeds will have a final home of hellfire.

Ezzah reminds us then that Allah is giving us the answer with what to do with our lives while on Earth: believe in Allah and do good deeds.
